Baby Octopus Costume

Soft velvet-touch plush all over, with a lightly padded hood and eight gently stuffed tentacles. There are no hard parts, no zips against the skin and no scratchy labels. It has a bit of weight to it, which most babies seem to find quite settling.

One size, and it fits most babies from around 3 to 18 months. The body is roomy and forgiving rather than fitted, so there is no sizing to get wrong.

Two: pink with a pale pink underside, and blue with a pale blue underside. Both are the same size and shape. If you're buying as a gift and can't decide, the two-colour bundle costs less than buying them separately.

No, and we'd rather say so plainly. This is a dress-up costume for supervised play and photos, not sleepwear. It has loose padded tentacles and a hood, and it hasn't been tested to children's sleepwear standards.

Please don't leave your baby in it for naps, overnight, or unattended in a cot. Nothing loose or padded belongs in a sleep space.

It's plush, so it's warm. Most parents put it straight over a nappy or a thin vest rather than over a full outfit, and keep wear to shorter stretches — photos, playtime, a video call with the grandparents.

Check the back of the neck now and then. If it feels hot or damp, take it off for a bit.

Spot clean where you can — plush holds its shape much better that way. For a full wash, use a mesh laundry bag, cold gentle cycle, then air dry flat and reshape the tentacles while damp.

Don't tumble dry, don't wring it, and skip the fabric softener. It flattens the velvet pile.

It arrives compressed in the packaging. Give the tentacles a shake and a few minutes to puff back out.
